Beck’s Counting
Just wanted to get this down for posterity: Beck counted to 18 this morning. He was ‘picking flowers’ (pulling the leaves off a plant in Lucy’s room), and after pulling off a bunch he lined them all up, then picked them up one at a time, counting as he did.
Del Ray Halloween Parade
Sunday was halloween – the first that Beck’s really participated in – just too young last year. The weather was unseasonably warm and he, Claire, and I walked in the Del Ray Halloween Parade. Here’s a few pics…

Two New Teeth
And then there were eight. Two more teeth are just about to poke through Beck’s top gum!
WALKING!!
He’s walking now – and not just the timid wobbly few steps to get from coffee table to couch. We’re talking full on living room to kitchen sprints – laughing all the way. It was about two weeks ago that he made the leap. So i would say his very first real unassisted steps were taken on January 20th, the night of our return from Bermuda.
Waving Bye and Sleep Obstinence
Beck is now waving good-bye with pretty consistent regularity. He’s also becoming a bit obstinent (is that how you spell that) about going to sleep. His schedule is getting a bit outta whack lately – not going to bed until 9:30 or 10. And fighting sleep like a champ when its clear he’s real tired.
Beck’s First Cold
Ugh. Beck’s sick. Pukies. The Runs. Soo much snot. He has projectile-vomitted on me twice. However, I have to admit, it certainly makes you feel needed and loved when all he wants is to cuddle up and make him feel better. Cheesy. I know. But true.
Beck’s Handing Out Kisses
After weeks of wishfullythinking that Beck was giving us kisses, I think it is now fair to say that he actually ‘gets it’. You say “Beck, gimme a kiss”, and he leans in and kinda puckers – then gets very excited afterwords.
Cruising!
Beck’s mobility is on the rise! He’s now pulling himself and scooting around coffee tables, sofas, and just about anything knee high to a
six footer with ease. You can put a toy on one end of the couch, and Beck at the other, and he’s there – and pretty quick. Between the couch and coffee table he’ll take the single ‘free step’ needed to go from one to the other.
Stair Mastery
Today Beck had several sessions of “stair-climbing”. The final climb had an obstacle – Boris – who way lying on the sixth step. Beck climbed up to Boris, and, of course, Boris went down the stairs. Beck sat down, turned, looked at Boris. Thought a minute about a downward route; he then lay on his stomach and put his hands on the stair below to slide down the steps to Boris!!!!!!!!!!
